We had a pretty good day andwe got to go see Coach Underwood in PE where we played Chinese Freeze Tag. Since tomorrow is December we created calendar markers for the month. We chose a Christmas tree, a present, and a yummy candy cane. We started reading a chapter book called Junie B. Jones First Grader Batman Smells. It is a Christmas theme book and we are going to read at least one chapter each day. After number corner we created a Christmas word bank. Word banks are used as a resource in reading and writing.

Box Top Bowl ends 11-20-09

We ae currently working on time lines. Students illustrated pictures of the first Thanksgiving, when the 13 colonies were established, and when the bald eagle became our country’s symbol. Some of us finished up stories we have been working on for about two weeks. Emily wrote a story about Halloween. Lucas wrote a story about school. Reagan wrote a story about her families Thanksgiving feast. Khloe wrote a story about her dog, Spanky-Doodle-Dandy. Students are using the writing process to write their stories. The writing process includes, plan, write, revise, edit, and then publish.

Happy Veterans Day!

2 notes in my folder. Continue to bring box tops.

We had a fun day when we got to play outside for recess. The weather was perfect! We did not have to walk any laps at recess today because we are getting better at not yelling out. Mrs. Ray is so proud of us. Now we are going to work on not interrupting others. After lunch we read The Amazing Turkey Rescue. We liked that book because we thought it was funny and the turkeys wear glasses when they trick the fox. In ready bodies we exercised and worked on building out strength.

3 notes in my folder. Spelling test on Wednesday the 18th.

Today was a good day. We are finishing up with American symbols and beginning to incorporate them into a time line. During math we continued to work with graphs. Today’s graph was using picture graphs and tally marks. Since it is Monday we went to PE and came back to the classroom sweaty and red-faced because we ran a lot! This morning we got new spelling words. They are: by, had, not, one, or, eagle, symbol, and thanks. Yesterday was Tysen’s birthday so we made him a birthday book today that he will get to take home tomorrow.

Ask me about raising my hand.

This morning started off great because we went to a Box Top pep rally. At the pep rally our class received Pixy Stix because we have scored a touchdown. So, continue to send box tops while we try to score another touchdown. We had pom poms we waved for the football team, cheerleaders, volleyball players, and band. We love our White Oak Roughnecks!!!

In math today we worked on problem solving. Our problems are using addition, subtraction, and problem solving. We are continuing to work on becoming better readers through independent reading and reading in small group.

Graded papers tomorrow.

Good News! We won an extra 30 minutes of recess tomorrow for being the class with the most box tops brought last week. We are still in the lead and on our way to scoring another touchdown.

In math we are starting to learn about organizing data through graphs. Today we worked on bar graphs with real pictures. During writers’ workshop we are each working on an individual story. Some of out topics are school, pets, Thanksgiving, self, and Halloween. We will finish these stories this week and make them into a book. Since we are working on knowing and identifying our American symbols we read books about the American flag. Did you know that the red and white stripes on the flag stand for the 13 original colonies and look like a peppermint?

Continue to send box tops.

We are currently leading the box top bowl and have scored one touchdown. The box top bowl will continue as long as the White Oak Roughnecks are winning! So continue to send box tops.

Today we started a unit over our American symbols. We are going to research and write about the symbols and connect them together using s timeline. We will also work on past, present, and future as we move closer to Thanksgiving. Since it is the first day of November we changed our number corner to represent Thanksgiving and fall. Since it is Monday we started new reading centers. In poetry center we are working on rhyming words. Listening center has new Thanksgiving books for us to hear. Today we finally got our math books, we are so excited!
